Happy Friday everyone! It’s favorites time again…I meant to have this post up last Friday, but since I was in party planning mode I never got around to doing it. Here are the things I’ve been obsessing over the last few weeks!
1. Mussels
Kyle and I went to Baltimore a few weeks ago to visit our friends Amy and Tony. Amy and I have been best friends since birth – we are only a week apart. Anyway, the night before we left, Kyle insisted I ask where they had planned on going for dinner while we were there. He wanted to browse the menu ahead of time to make sure there was something he would like. Crazy man. So, I complied and Amy suggested we go to Mussel Bar & Grilled, which had just opened.
When I relayed the information to Kyle his response was “I don’t like mussels”. I said “they have other things besides mussels”. He thought about it for a few minutes and then declared that he doesn’t actually know if he likes mussels because never had them.
After spending the afternoon at the aquarium, we walked over to Mussel Bar & Grille and as we scanned the menu we both decided to get mussels. Up until then, I never had mussels either but I’m the opposite of a picky eater, so I knew I’d like them. They came in half and full portions and then you could add on fries with a trio of sauces. Amy and I ordered half portions and Kyle ordered a full – I laughed so hard at this. Here is a guy that never had mussels and he goes all in and just orders the full. I chose the spicy thai sauce for mine and he went with the white wine option. Both were amazing!
A week later while at Whole Foods we walked by the seafood counter and I spotted mussels. We ended up getting some and I recreated both sauces that night – so so good!
2. Avocados
I am completely obsessed with avocados at the moment. I’ve been buying bags of them at Costco and adding them to smoothies, salads, scrambled eggs, and of course I made guacamole. My favorite guacamole recipe is from Ina Garten. Keeping with that whole healthy lifestyle, I even went for veggies for dipping instead of corn chips.
3. Tea
I’ve never been a coffee drinker, but always enjoyed hot tea. A few years ago I discovered the wonders of loose leaf tea when my sister introduced me to Teavana. They have classic teas as well as some unique flavors. Each season they come out with different flavors – the pumpkin chai from fall was amazing. My two favorites are the earl grey creme and the gyokuro imperial green tea. The earl grey creme is SO delicious – I love it in the morning. The green tea is a very strong grassy taste, which I love. It’s good iced or hot for a late morning/early afternoon pick-me-up.
4. Brunch
I am a huge fan of breakfast food, but not during typical breakfast hours. I frequently make breakfast for dinner and I love making brunch. One of our favorite restaurants here in Delaware, Redfire Grill happens to serve Sunday brunch. We tried it two weeks ago and it was so much fun – they serve a complimentary mimosa or bloody mary! I just love that. We have reservations for Easter brunch this weekend and I’m so excited. It’s the little things in life…
5. Live Bald Eagle Cam
For the past few weeks I have been watching this live cam of a bald eagle nest in Hanover, PA. The eggs were laid back in February, and hatched early last week. It’s just so cool to see the eagles bring food and feed their young! The little ones fight a lot too, which is rather amusing. I like to put this on while I’m eating lunch or dinner and see what they are up to. If you love birds and nature as much as I do, definitely check it out!
I hope enjoyed my random list of favorites! Have a fantastic weekend and a happy Easter 🙂

I am obsessed with avocados, too! I think I could eat one every day, they’re just too good! And I love mussels too, though I haven’t had them in forever. I definitely need to change that! Thanks so much for sharing and have a great weekend, Keri!

I am a big tea drinker too! I can’t have coffee. All that caffeine makes me feel like I’m having an anxiety attack. No good! My favorite of the moment is Tazo tea bags. But I have got to try loose tea leaves! They just started carrying loose tea leaves in the bulk bins at the health food store. Smells heavenly when I walk by it. Oh, and I’m a big fan of mussels! I’ve made them in a dark beer broth before, and serve it with crusty bread. So good! But I want to try that spicy thai version now!

I can’t do coffee either because I’m really sensitive to caffeine! I have to be careful with caffeinated teas, too – if I have too much in a day or drink it too late in the day I don’t sleep and I run around like a maniac from all the energy it gives me haha. You definitely need to try loose tea – it’s so fun!

I agree with so many things in this post ;). Mussels – one of my all time faves (and I totally think you should put those recipe recreations on the blog), avocados – also one of my all time faves. Seth hates them…which is so unfortunate. Also love hot tea, and also love breakfast food but not so much in the mornings. Made me laugh!!

I will definitely share the mussel recipes at some point – it’s on my list! Kyle hates avocados, too. I think it’s mostly in his head that he doesn’t like them, but oh well!

I tried mussels once and just can’t do it. They are too fishy for me! My hubby loves them though! I am right there with you on the avocados and tea though! I am obsessed with the passion tea from The Coffee Bean. We always brew it at home! And don’t even get me started on brunch! lol It is the cause of my weight gain woes but I just LOVEEE it!
Hope you have a great weekend Keri! =)

I was always scared to try mussels because the name is just off-putting to me! Passion tea sounds wonderful. I hear you on brunch and weight gain – it’s so easy to get carried away because it’s just so darn good! Hope you had a great weekend 🙂

It is addicting! I have watched it for hours without even realizing it. I like David’s tea too – I tried a fall sampler last year and it was awesome!
